Summer Fireworks Display
A grand fireworks display that brings the Tottori Shan Shan Festival to a close
Every year on August 15, a fireworks display that marks the finale of Tottori Shan Shan Festival, the largest summer event of Tottori Prefecture, takes place at Sendaigawara Civic Sports Square. Around 5,000 bursts of fireworks illuminate the night sky in a dazzling display of colors.
The fireworks display originated from the Sendaigawa Kansha Matsuri (“Sendai River Gratitude Festival”) held in 1953 to celebrate the merger of Tottori City with 14 surrounding villages and the completion of large-scale renovation works on the Sendai River, which had flooded three times in the past. The event is a way of showing gratitude toward the local community and offering prayers for peace. It also serves as a traditional Buddhist ceremony to honor the spirits of ancestors.
Enjoy the beautiful and moving fireworks that light up Tottori’s night skies in summer.
