Fudoin Iwayado Temple
A temple built in a natural cave with a unique architectural style
This is a very unusual temple, built to appear as if it were protruding from a natural rock cave. Its unique location and advanced architectural techniques have been highly acclaimed, and it has been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
It is also a famous spiritual spot that houses a statue of Fudo Myoo, the Buddha revered for dispelling misfortune. Twice a year, a special Buddhist ceremony called "Goma Hoyo" is held, when people entrust their wishes to blazing flames and pray for happiness. During this event, the statue of Fudo Myoo, usually kept away from the public eye, is put on display for viewing, and local products are also sold.
