Nagashibina Doll Museum

A facility that preserves the culture of Japanese hina dolls for future generations

March 3 is Hina Matsuri (Girl’s Day), a day to pray for the health and happiness of girls. Special dolls called Hina ningyo (hina dolls) are displayed to celebrate the occasion.

In Mochigase Town, the traditional event of Nagashibina is held on the third day of the third month of the lunar calendar, when paper hina dolls are floated down the river to pray for good health. The Nagashibina Doll Museum has a permanent exhibition of old hina dolls and decorations, and introduces the culture of hina dolls. Visitors can also participate in hands-on workshops to make nagashibina with the guidance of local instructors.

At the Kanko Bussan Center (tourism and local product center) adjoining the museum, you can purchase gifts and sweets related to nagashibina. There is also a beautiful Japanese garden where you can enjoy a relaxing and tranquil moment while admiring the scenery.
