Aoya Washi Studio (paper-making experience)

A museum for the traditional Japanese craft, washi

Washi is a traditional Japanese paper characterized by its thinness, durability, and suitability for preservation. Since ancient times, it has been used in Japanese houses and for making traditional Japanese umbrellas. Inshu washi, produced in this region, is especially widely known for its high quality.

Aoya Washi Studio is a museum where you can learn about the history of washi, spanning more than 1,300 years. Here, you can make an advance booking for a hands-on experience of paper making, and even create your own original lampshade using the washi you have made. It is the perfect gift and memento of your trip to japan.
